Last Saturday night racing returned to Westshore Motorsports Park with the Slegg Building Materials Opening Night of Mayhem. The LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series, Howie’s Car Corral Bombers, Mini Figure 8’s and the Loan Rangers Financial Claimers were all in action in front of a packed house.
Main event action kicked off with the Howie’s Car Corral Bombers for 30 laps. Jenn White and Craig Matthews led the field to the green with Matthews grabbing the lead early. On lap six Ryan Alexander pulled into the turn three grass with mechanical problems bringing out the first yellow of the race. On the restart Matthews held off Mark Zacchinga to keep the lead, with Devon Degraag slotting into second. Stuart Campbell worked his way past Degraag on lap 14 and quickly closed in on race leader Matthews, pressuring him until the final lap until the two made contact coming off of turn two on the final lap. Campbell was black flagged as Matthews spun, leaving Devon Degraag with his first Westshore Motorsports Park win. Heat race wins went to Stuart Campbell and Ryan Alexander.
Next up were the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Cars and Trucks, with Thomas Fanthorpe and Chris Williams starting on the front row. Zack Brotherston held the lead early on before the yellow would come out for Josh Nelson on lap two. Kenny Baker took over the top spot shortly after the restart before getting tangled up with lap traffic and breaking an axle. Riley Noyce would emerge as the race leader after all of the chaos before Noyce would get dumped by a lp car as well, handing the lead and the win to George Haywood. Kenny Baker and Brandon Young scored heat race wins.
The Loan Ranger Financial Claimers rolled on track next with Allana Jacobs and Randy Wiebe out front to start. Jacobs took over the lead right off the start and opened up a big lead early on before Matthew Chitty and Nolan Perry moved into second and third and began to close down the gap. The only yellow of the race came out on lap 12 for John Peers, who spun out in turn three. On the restart Nolan Perry would move into second behind Jacobs, but the driver of car 48 would be able to hold off the 73 to get the main event win. Jacobs also won the first heat race of the evening with Dennis Stewart scoring the win in the second heat of the night.
The final main event of the evening was for the Mini Figure 8’s. Mariah Stone and Mike Noyce made up the front row with Stone coming out in front after an early back and forth battle with Noyce. After leading for the majority of the race Stone was knocked out of the way by Daryn Cahill for the lead with only a handful of laps to go. The defending Mini Figure 8 Champion would drive on to score the main event win to go along with his heat race win from earlier on in the night. Jen New would claim the other heat race win.
